Get bended metal wire, paint it with bright colours, add a generous amount of talent, a spoonful of feminine touch, spice up with bits of memory and you'll get Re-Trouvè, the latest outdoors series by Patricia Urquiola for italian company EMU. Serve on a sunny day with fresh limonade.

Nendo

It's been so long I can't believe it! It has been terribly busy and it will be for another week but let's try to get this going. Hope you guys did not run away already ;)

Nendo had a tiny and magic exhibition last april at Milan named Bloomroom. The japanese team managed to surprise again with their simple yet intriguing objects. They showed the Polar table manufactured by Swedese, a series of three esencial small tables covered with polarizing film, which makes flower patterns appear through the clear glass surface when the tables are stacked.
Hanabi was the star of the show, a clever lamp that utilizes the heat of the light bulb to open and close the metal petals, the result is both surprising and enchanting.

Expressionist, geometrical and with an eastern touch, these are the words that Tom Dixon uses for describing his new collection. Ornamentation is an internal urge in humans and he embraces this philosophy for emotive sake. The new patterns are inspired by the underlying structure of things: woven textiles, chain-mail, microscopic cell construction, and have a protagonist role in the Plane tables, the Tall chairs and last year's Soft System.
Wired steel structures characterise the Link armchair and the new Cage light available in two different sizes.
One of my favourites pieces was the Fat Spot, I loved the prismatic polycarbonate shade internally coated with copper and the hand beaten brass lamps Beat Light. The Diamond Light is a large-scale pendant light in folded aluminium with anodised finish.

Aluminium is the absolute protagonist of Driade Store novelties. Matteo Thun presented the Isu series of chair, armchair and stool in anodized aluminium treated to produce both a particular luminosity and a pleasant touch. Philippe Starck signs the Cafe' series of chairs and tables, classic styled pieces in sandblasted anodized aluminium. Francisco Gomez Paz presented his original magazine holder Omero, Christophe Pillet designed the Paris Bar stool, a minimalist shape obtained thanks to elaborate production technology in mirror finished aluminium.
Ron Arad signs for Driade Aleph an intriguing stool, Screw is adjustable in height by a screwing movement, the result is a strange shape not very appealing to me and I guess quite complicated to produce. Tokujin Toshioka designed a low armchair with mirror polished steel structure and leather strips. Patricia Urquiola does it again with her Pavo and Pavo Real chairs, the talented spanish designer continues her exploration of craftmanship production and past languages with outstanding results.

The historical italian brand Danese was present at Milan with many novelties, beautifully expressed in the outstanding images of photographer Miro Zagnoli. DANESE N.E.W.S. (North-East-West-South) is the concept behind the new generation of products, merging cultures and environments in a dynamic and adaptable collection. Yves Behar signs the multifunctional Kada, ready to transform itself into a stool, a seater, a low table, a tray or even a hub; and also the chair and newspaper holder Farallon.
Japanese star designer Naoto Fukasawa created the Amila chair. James Irvine paid tribute to Italy with his Belvedere mirror.
Carlota de Bevilacqua presented TET TAN, the evolution of last years's lihts TET, a nice combination of textures and languages gives a wide range of possibilities. Last year's Bincan series by Fukasawa was expanded and Ovidio table by Francisco Gomez Paz was presented in the final production version.

There are many good reasons for me to love this original magazine rack that Driade will present for the first time this week at Milan. Designed by Francisco Gomez Paz, Omero is made of modular injected aluminium cones and steel legs, the result is a stunning simple and sophisticated object I completely fell in love with.

Among the new projects the italian company Domodinamica will display the Mist Table by Milan based designer Rodrigo Torres. Characterised by the tense and fluid surfaces, the table was conceived as the perfect companion for the Mist armchair presented last year. Made of steel tubes and aluminium injected joints is available in black, white and chrome finish and in different sizes, ranging from coffee table to meeting table.

Polder

Polder sofa designed by Hella Jongerius for Vitra's Home Collection is an outstanding piece of high quality furniture and design to the finest details.
Inspired by diverse techniques such as tailoring, collage and embroidery, she has successfully mixed them into a delightful contemporary design language. Different sized cushions upholstered in five different coordinated colours and textures, and large buttons made of natural materials like horn, bamboo and mother of pearl that are sewn to the cushions with bold broad cross stitches using contrasting threads, are the main elements that will probably make Polder a design classic.
Jongerius has wisely played with the potential offered by numerically controlled machines, proposing random stitching of buttons and open variations for the pattern lines in the poufs.

Diana Table

I consider Konstantin Gcric one of the strongest designers on the field and one of the few doing real industrial design and not just aesthetic exercises.
The Diana Table Series for Classicon is one of the projects that evidences the best of Gcric's skills. Simple, extremely clever use of material and technology, original design style, minimal yet sensual aesthetics and strong attention to functionality and user experience.

Shelflife

Charles Trevelyan
launched at 100% Design Shelflife, a geometrical shelving system that hides a chair and a small table inside.
Having worked in graphic design for several years before branching into furniture, Charles Trevelyan's recent has a strong graphic approach that is translated into three dimensional forms.
