dbg.jpg | Nendo
June 14, 2006 _furniture

It's been so long I can't believe it! It has been terribly busy and it will be for another week but let's try to get this going. Hope you guys did not run away already ;)

Nendo had a tiny and magic exhibition last april at Milan named Bloomroom. The japanese team managed to surprise again with their simple yet intriguing objects. They showed the Polar table manufactured by Swedese, a series of three esencial small tables covered with polarizing film, which makes flower patterns appear through the clear glass surface when the tables are stacked.
Hanabi was the star of the show, a clever lamp that utilizes the heat of the light bulb to open and close the metal petals, the result is both surprising and enchanting.

dbg.jpg |Salone del Mobile 2006: Tom Dixon
May 15, 2006 _fairs

Expressionist, geometrical and with an eastern touch, these are the words that Tom Dixon uses for describing his new collection. Ornamentation is an internal urge in humans and he embraces this philosophy for emotive sake. The new patterns are inspired by the underlying structure of things: woven textiles, chain-mail, microscopic cell construction, and have a protagonist role in the Plane tables, the Tall chairs and last year's Soft System.
Wired steel structures characterise the Link armchair and the new Cage light available in two different sizes.
One of my favourites pieces was the Fat Spot, I loved the prismatic polycarbonate shade internally coated with copper and the hand beaten brass lamps Beat Light. The Diamond Light is a large-scale pendant light in folded aluminium with anodised finish.
All the images after the jump.

dbg.jpg | Salone del Mobile 2006: Driade
April 28, 2006 _fairs

Aluminium is the absolute protagonist of Driade Store novelties. Matteo Thun presented the Isu series of chair, armchair and stool in anodized aluminium treated to produce both a particular luminosity and a pleasant touch. Philippe Starck signs the Cafe' series of chairs and tables, classic styled pieces in sandblasted anodized aluminium. Francisco Gomez Paz presented his original magazine holder Omero, Christophe Pillet designed the Paris Bar stool, a minimalist shape obtained thanks to elaborate production technology in mirror finished aluminium.
Ron Arad signs for Driade Aleph an intriguing stool, Screw is adjustable in height by a screwing movement, the result is a strange shape not very appealing to me and I guess quite complicated to produce. Tokujin Toshioka designed a low armchair with mirror polished steel structure and leather strips. Patricia Urquiola does it again with her Pavo and Pavo Real chairs, the talented spanish designer continues her exploration of craftmanship production and past languages with outstanding results.

dbg.jpg |Polder
November 24, 2005 _furniture

Polder sofa designed by Hella Jongerius for Vitra's Home Collection is an outstanding piece of high quality furniture and design to the finest details.
Inspired by diverse techniques such as tailoring, collage and embroidery, she has successfully mixed them into a delightful contemporary design language. Different sized cushions upholstered in five different coordinated colours and textures, and large buttons made of natural materials like horn, bamboo and mother of pearl that are sewn to the cushions with bold broad cross stitches using contrasting threads, are the main elements that will probably make Polder a design classic.
Jongerius has wisely played with the potential offered by numerically controlled machines, proposing random stitching of buttons and open variations for the pattern lines in the poufs.

dbg.jpg |Diana Table
November 10, 2005 _furniture

I consider Konstantin Gcric one of the strongest designers on the field and one of the few doing real industrial design and not just aesthetic exercises.
The Diana Table Series for Classicon is one of the projects that evidences the best of Gcric's skills. Simple, extremely clever use of material and technology, original design style, minimal yet sensual aesthetics and strong attention to functionality and user experience.

dbg.jpg |Anteprima Salone Satellite 2004
March 30, 2004 _furniture

Dear friends of designbeans, we are pleased to invite you to the presentation of our latest project.
Entirely hand made in Argentina, Apero is a chaise longue born from a research project by Francisco Gomez Paz, who explores design from its deepest roots, rediscovering its most basic values to justify and give a sense that goes beyond the creation of new aesthetic and functional proposals. Design as the only instrument with the force to give values to a culture that wants to confront the market.
We will be happy to see you at Salone Satellite stand G-15 and at Spazio Sumampa, Bastioni di Porta Nuova 9.
