Poltrona Frau has announced the acquisition of 100% of Cassina, the italian group that controls also Alias and Nemo.
The group that has already in the porfolio renown design brands such as Cappellini, Thonet Vienna and Gufram aims to export to the world the best of italian design and manufacture.

Nendo is a japanese design office named after the japanese word for clay.
Free-formed, and flexibility, adaptability in the scene of design is their motto.
Among their projects the stool Wind conceived to obtain the maximum structural performance with plywood, and the table Snow made by simple snowflake shaped plywood pieces for Swedese, Chab table for De Padova, that switches from side table to coffee table according to how the stand is fixed and the lamp Sorane for Oluce, a transparent acrylic disc with LED technology that gives sound and light from above.

Cultivate is a young dutch company that manufactures lighting, furniture and interior accessories.
Cultivate launched during Milan Design Week the collection made by skilled craftsmen in modern factories in the Netherlands.
Among the novelties Therese, Josephine and Marie Louise, a series of lamps made of PMMA sheets illuminated by a special fluorescent bulb and Sputnik, a coffee table folded from one sheet of aluminium without any additional contructional elements or welds.
The pieces were designed by Sander Mulder and Dave Keune from the design agency Buro Vormkrijgers.

Nespresso and the italian magazine Interni present the Design Competition Coffee Unplugged.
To participate please register online as of June 1st and submit your entry no later than October 31st, 2005.
The jury will be formed by Alberto Alessi, Elisa Astori, Giulio Cappellini, Antoine Cahen and Alfredo Haberli among others. Three prizes will be awarded for a total of EUR 26.000, the award Ceremony will be held during Salone del Mobile 2006.

Charles Kaisin obtained a Master at Royal College of Art in 2001 after a material reserch program held in Kyoto, Japan.
Since then he has been working on recycled and expandable objects, experiencing with materials and their possibilities.
Basket (in the photo) is a lovely extendable leather bag designed for Delvaux. Flat when open, it develops and acquires volume when closed.
K-Bench is a modular and extendable bench in polypropylene designed for Vange, the bee-hive structured bench expands from 30 cms to 300 cms and it can be shaped according to one's need. Kaisin has also developed an extendable bench in newspaper.

From May 5 to 16, Berlin-based festival DESIGNMAI host multiple events, offering insights into the contemporary design scene.
The program includes several large exhibitions at a central location and many satellite events throughout Berlin including award ceremonies, parties and happenings.
The exhibition JUNG+DEUTSCH (YOUNG+GERMAN) features the work of emerging german designers from the fields of furniture, product, graphic, fashion and media design. On the spotlight recent projects by Konstantin Grcic, Werner Aisslinger, Stefan Diez, Kram/Weisshaar (in the photo their Breeding Table), Vogt + Weizenegger, Sisi Wasabi and many others.

Elric Petit, Augustin Scott de Martinville and Gregoire Jeanmonod are Big Game, a design team created a year ago and presented officially at Salone Satellite 2005.
Heritage in Progress is their first collection, a series of objects and lamps created by confronting two radically opposed notions: heritage and contemporary lifestyle.

Takeaway is a group of young designers working under the general concept of "to go": light objects, transformable, for easy transportation
and extreme personalization.
They have recently launched the collection Lights On, a series of lamps made of colored, die cut, printed or folded polypropylene. The structure is ultralight, easy to assemble and uses standard components to optimize production and shipping. The electrical parts are also standard to reduce costs and facilitate maintenance of the product.
The collection was produced by Bright International Group Ltd. and presented during Milan's Furniture Fair.
